rpx

rpx is an interface to proteomics data submitted to the ProteomeXchange consortium. ProteomeXchange (PX) is an international consortium of proteomics resources that aims to standardize and facilitate the submission and dissemination of mass spectrometry-based proteomics data. It provides a single point of submission for proteomics data, which is then distributed to the appropriate member repositories.

Key features and functions of ProteomeXchange:

1. Coordinated data submission: PX enables researchers to submit their proteomics datasets to multiple repositories through a unified submission process.

2. Unique dataset identifiers: Each dataset submitted to PX is assigned a unique ProteomeXchange accession number, which serves as a stable reference for the dataset across all participating repositories.

3. Data dissemination: Once a dataset is submitted, PX distributes the data to the appropriate member repositories, such as PRIDE (PRoteomics IDEntifications), PeptideAtlas, and MassIVE, based on the nature of the data and the submitter's preference.

4. Data standardization: PX promotes using standardized data formats and metadata requirements, ensuring consistency and interoperability of the submitted datasets.

5. Data access and reuse: By centralizing the submission process and distributing data to multiple repositories, PX enhances the discoverability and accessibility of proteomics datasets, facilitating data reuse and reproducibility.
