RStudio

RStudio is a platform-independent integrated development environment (IDE) for the R programming language that aims to replace fragmented, “clunky” platform-specific interfaces with a consistent, user-friendly workspace. Designed to support both routine statistical computing and more reproducible research workflows, it integrates core tools commonly used alongside R—particularly Sweave and related literate-programming/reporting approaches—within a single application.

Beyond providing a unified interface, RStudio combines an R-aware code editor with a multi-document, tabbed workspace and tightly coupled execution, visualization, and project organization features. It is intended to help users move from interactive analysis toward scalable, reproducible analysis and reporting by streamlining editing, running code, and managing analysis artifacts in one environment, while remaining compatible with standard R distributions from CRAN.
