rWCVP

rWCVP provides programmatic access to the World Checklist of Vascular Plants (WCVP) and functions to reconcile taxonomic names, integrate geospatial data, generate distribution maps, and summarize WCVP data for plant science analyses.

Key Features:

  • Taxonomic Name Reconciliation: Functions to reconcile and standardize taxonomic names within the World Checklist of Vascular Plants (WCVP) to ensure consistent taxonomy.
  • Geospatial Integration: Capabilities to link and integrate geospatial data with WCVP records for spatial analyses.
  • Mapping Functions: Generation of distribution maps directly from WCVP data to visualize species occurrences and ranges.
  • Data Summarization: Tools to produce data summaries and report-format outputs derived from the WCVP dataset.

Scientific Applications:

  • Plant Science Research: Facilitation of taxonomic, biodiversity, and floristic analyses using standardized WCVP data.
  • Conservation Efforts: Support for habitat mapping and species distribution modeling using integrated geospatial and WCVP data relevant to conservation planning.
  • Ecological Studies: Analysis of plant community composition and spatial ecological patterns across ecosystems using WCVP-derived datasets.
  • Evolutionary Biology: Provision of consistent taxonomic frameworks to support phylogenetic and comparative studies.

Methodology:

Implemented as an R package that exposes functions for taxonomic name reconciliation, geospatial data integration, mapping, and data summarization of the World Checklist of Vascular Plants (WCVP).
