SAPdb

SAPdb provides a curated repository of experimentally validated self-assembling short peptides and their nanostructures to support research in peptide-based nanomaterials for drug delivery and biomedical engineering.

Key Features:

  • Extensive Repository: Contains 1,049 entries of experimentally validated peptide nanostructures, including 328 tripeptides, 701 dipeptides, 20 single amino acids, and some conjugate partners.
  • Detailed Experimental Metadata: Records chemical modifications, types of nanostructures formed, and experimental conditions such as pH, temperature, and solvent type for each entry.
  • Analytical Insights: Highlights that peptides containing aromatic amino acids favor self-assembly and that varying experimental conditions can produce diverse nanostructures from the same peptides.

Scientific Applications:

  • Therapeutic and Drug Delivery Research: Supports development of peptide-based drug delivery systems and other therapeutic applications informed by low cytotoxicity and high affinity to cell surface receptors.
  • Biomedical Engineering and Biomaterials Design: Provides foundational data for designing ordered nanostructures formed through peptide self-assembly for biomedical engineering applications.

Methodology:

The database was created by compiling experimentally validated data on peptides known to form nanostructures via self-assembly.
