satpdb

satpdb provides a curated repository of structurally annotated therapeutic peptides integrating sequence, structural, and functional information to support peptide-based therapeutic research.

Key Features:

  • Data integration: Aggregates peptides from 22 public domain peptide databases and nine unique developer-contributed datasets into a single repository.
  • Dataset size and composition: Contains 19,192 experimentally validated peptide sequences of length 2–50 amino acids including natural, non-natural, and modified residues.
  • Functional classification: Categorizes peptides into ten functional groups with counts provided for major classes (anticancer: 1,099; antimicrobial: 10,585; drug delivery: 1,642; antihypertensive: 1,698).
  • Structural annotation: Integrates structural information from the Protein Data Bank and complements it with predicted models.
  • Structure prediction methods: Uses I-TASSER, HHsearch, and PEPstrMOD for peptide structure prediction and modeling.
  • Sequence and structure similarity search: Provides capability to identify peptides with similar sequence or structural characteristics.
  • Peptide browsing by function and properties: Enables exploration of peptides based on defined functional categories and physicochemical properties.
  • Moonlighting peptide identification: Identifies peptides exhibiting multiple therapeutic functions.
  • Search by structure and therapeutic activity: Allows selection of peptides by specific structural features and associated therapeutic activities.

Scientific Applications:

  • Anticancer peptide discovery: Facilitates identification and analysis of experimentally validated and predicted-structure anticancer peptides.
  • Antimicrobial peptide discovery: Supports discovery and comparative analysis of antimicrobial peptides across a large dataset.
  • Peptide-based drug delivery design: Provides data for selecting and characterizing peptides used in drug delivery applications.
  • Antihypertensive peptide identification: Enables selection and study of peptides with antihypertensive activity.
  • Multifunctional (moonlighting) peptide analysis: Enables detection and study of peptides with multiple therapeutic functions.
  • Structure-guided peptide therapeutics: Supports structure-informed selection and design of therapeutic peptides using experimental and predicted models.

Methodology:

Peptide sequences were aggregated from 22 public domain databases and nine developer datasets (19,192 experimentally validated entries, 2–50 amino acids); structural annotation uses Protein Data Bank entries and de novo prediction with I-TASSER, HHsearch, and PEPstrMOD; sequence and structure similarity searches are provided.
