SPARClink

SPARClink tracks and visualizes citations and reuse of datasets, publications, and protocols generated under the NIH SPARC program to map the impact of FAIR-curated neuromodulation research relevant to therapeutic device development.

Key Features:

  • Automated discovery: Automatically and continuously identifies new SPARC-related datasets, publications, and protocols.
  • API integration: Queries SPARC datasets and protocols via Pennsieve and Protocols.io REST APIs.
  • Data storage: Stores query results in a database.
  • Knowledge-graph integration: Represents and links datasets, publications, protocols, and citations using a knowledge-graph-based structure.
  • Citation retrieval: Retrieves citation information via the NIH Reporter API and the NCBI Entrez system.
  • Visualization: Visualizes connections among SPARC resources and external citations.

Scientific Applications:

  • Impact tracking: Quantifies and visualizes how SPARC-generated datasets, publications, and protocols are cited and reused.
  • FAIR uptake assessment: Evaluates dissemination and uptake of FAIR-curated SPARC resources.
  • Neuromodulation research mapping: Maps outputs from neuromodulation research relevant to development of therapeutic devices that modulate nerve electrical activity to enhance organ function.
  • Citation network analysis: Enables retrieval and mapping of external citations to assess the influence of SPARC resources.

Methodology:

Automatically and continuously discovers SPARC outputs; queries Pennsieve and Protocols.io via REST APIs; stores results in a database; constructs a knowledge-graph-based data model; retrieves citation data via the NIH Reporter API and NCBI Entrez; and generates visualizations of resource–citation connections.
