SuperSweet
SuperSweet compiles structural, chemical, and annotation data for carbohydrates, artificial sweeteners, proteins, peptides, d-amino acids, and other sweet-tasting molecules to support molecular analysis of taste and rational sweetener development.
Key Features:
- Extensive Database: Contains a curated collection of over 8,000 sweet molecules including small compounds, carbohydrates, d-amino acids, and large proteins.
- Structural Information and Properties: Provides modeled 3D structures of the sweet taste receptor and annotated structural properties for individual molecules.
- Binding Poses: Includes modeled binding poses of small sweet molecules within the sweet taste receptor.
- Caloric and Therapeutic Annotations: Records caloric content and therapeutic annotations for each molecular entry.
- Sweetness Index: Assigns a sweetness index to each molecule to enable comparative analysis of perceived sweetness.
- Similarity Searching and Classification: Supports similarity searching and organizes sweeteners via a classification tree into defined categories.
Scientific Applications:
- Sweetener Design: Enables rational design of low-calorie and alternative sweetening agents by providing receptor interaction and structural data.
- Taste Perception Research: Supports investigation of the molecular basis and mechanisms of sweetness perception through analysis of binding poses and receptor models.
- Nutritional and Therapeutic Research: Facilitates studies aimed at addressing diet-induced conditions such as obesity, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia via molecular-level insights into sweeteners.
Methodology:
Integration of structural biology and bioinformatics to model interactions between sweet molecules and the sweet taste receptor and analysis of binding poses.
