SWISS-2DPAGE
SWISS-2DPAGE provides a curated database of proteins identified by two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (2-D PAGE) and sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) to support proteomics research.
Key Features:
- Extensive Protein Data: Contains approximately 4,000 identified protein spots corresponding to approximately 1,200 distinct protein entries from organisms including humans, mice, Arabidopsis thaliana, Dictyostelium discoideum, Escherichia coli, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and Staphylococcus aureus.
- Reference Maps: Includes 36 reference 2-D PAGE maps to facilitate comparison and identification across species and experimental conditions.
- High-Level Annotation: Provides detailed annotations for each protein entry.
- Integration with Other Databases: Cross-references protein entries with other biological databases to enable broader data linkage.
Scientific Applications:
- Protein Identification and Characterization: Supports identification of proteins from 2-D PAGE and SDS-PAGE experiments and characterization of expression patterns.
- Comparative Proteomics: Enables comparative studies between species or experimental conditions using reference maps.
- Biomarker Discovery: Facilitates discovery of candidate biomarkers by analyzing differential protein spot patterns across conditions.
- Functional Genomics: Links protein data with genetic information to investigate protein roles in biological processes.
Methodology:
Curation and annotation of protein data derived from 2-D PAGE and SDS-PAGE and integration of entries with other databases.
