TcoF-DB

TcoF-DB catalogs human transcription co-factors (TcoFs) and transcription factor (TF) interacting proteins to support analysis of proteins involved in transcriptional regulation.

Key Features:

  • Comprehensive Protein Collection: Curated set of human transcription factors, associated transcription co-factors, and additional TF-interacting proteins, including 157 high-confidence TcoFs and 379 hypothetical TcoFs.
  • Classification System: TcoFs are classified into four groups comprising one high-confidence category and three hypothetical categories representing varying degrees of evidence for involvement in transcriptional processes.
  • Evidence-Based Identification: Proteins are identified and classified according to available evidence supporting their participation in transcriptional regulation and their presence in the cell nucleus.
  • Integrated Data: Integration of high-confidence data with hypothetical associations to provide a comprehensive view of transcriptional machinery.

Scientific Applications:

  • Transcriptional Regulation Studies: Support analysis of the mechanisms of transcriptional regulation in eukaryotes by listing TFs, TcoFs, and TF-interacting proteins.
  • Interaction Analysis: Enable examination of TF–DNA interactions and protein–protein interactions involving TcoFs.
  • Functional Role Investigation: Facilitate investigation of the indirect roles of TcoFs in modulating transcription factor function.
  • Network and Target Identification: Support exploration of protein interaction networks that contribute to gene expression regulation and identification of potential therapeutic targets within TF–TcoF networks.

Methodology:

Database content was assembled using a systematic approach to identify and classify proteins involved in transcriptional regulation and integrates high-confidence data with hypothetical associations.
