TCPB

TCPB provides a Protocol Buffers-based client–server interface to TeraChem, enabling GPU-accelerated electronic structure and QM/MM calculations from third-party programs.

  • Protocol Buffers Framework: Uses Google's Protocol Buffers for communication and data serialization, enabling interoperability with C++, Fortran, and Python.
  • GPU-Accelerated Electronic Structure: Leverages TeraChem's GPU-accelerated electronic structure algorithms to perform quantum mechanical and QM/MM calculations.
  • Performance Optimization: Integration with Amber for QM/MM reduces GPU initialization and I/O overhead, producing more than a 2× speedup versus file-based implementations for systems of approximately 250 basis functions.

Scientific Applications:

  • QM and QM/MM Simulations: Accelerates quantum mechanics and hybrid QM/MM simulations used to study chemical systems at electronic-structure level.
  • Excited-State Free-Energy Calculations: Applied to compute the free energy profile of p-hydroxybenzylidene-2,3-dimethylimidazolinone (p-HBDI^-) using Hamiltonian replica exchange sampling on the first excited singlet state.

Methodology:

TeraChem runs as an electronic structure server accessed by client programs over a Protocol Buffers interface, using GPU-accelerated electronic structure calculations while reducing file-based I/O and GPU initialization overhead.
