The GRID
The GRID archives and displays physical, genetic, and functional interactions among proteins and genes to support integration and analysis of molecular interaction networks.
Key Features:
- Interaction types archived: Stores physical, genetic, and functional interaction records for proteins and genes.
- Data integration sources: Integrates interaction data derived from literature curation and high-throughput studies.
- Visualization via Osprey: Integrates with the Osprey visualization system to generate graphical views and user-customized graphs that embed protein, gene, and interaction attributes.
- BioGRID linkage (v2.0): Linked to BioGRID release 2.0 containing over 116,000 interactions across Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Caenorhabditis elegans, Drosophila melanogaster, and Homo sapiens.
- Curation provenance: Interaction dataset content results from curation of more than 5,778 sources with particular emphasis on primary literature for Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
- Data formats: Provides datasets in tab-delimited text and PSI-MI XML formats.
- Pre-computed layouts: Produces pre-computed graphical layouts of interaction networks available in multiple file formats.
Scientific Applications:
- Interaction mapping and network analysis: Enables study of global network properties and complex biological networks using integrated interaction data and graphical layouts.
- Gene and protein function investigation: Supports inference of gene/protein function through curated physical, genetic, and functional interactions.
- Comparative interaction studies: Facilitates cross-species analysis using interaction datasets from S. cerevisiae, C. elegans, D. melanogaster, and H. sapiens.
- Evidence synthesis from literature: Aggregates curated interactions from primary literature to support evidence-based interaction analyses.
Methodology:
Integrates interaction data from literature curation and high-throughput studies; performs exhaustive curation from primary literature; generates pre-computed graphical layouts; interfaces with Osprey to produce user-customized graphs embedding protein, gene, and interaction attributes.
