Tools4MSP

Tools4MSP provides Python-based FOSS for geospatial analysis in Maritime Spatial Planning, implementing cumulative effects assessment (CEA), maritime use conflict (MUC) analysis, and Marine Ecosystem Services Threat (MES-Threat) evaluation while offering a stand-alone Python library, GeoNode integration, and interoperability with the Tools4MSP Geoplatform (data.tools4msp.eu).

Key Features:

  • Geoplatform Integration: Integrates with the Tools4MSP Geoplatform (data.tools4msp.eu) to enable interoperable sharing and access of geospatial datasets.
  • Cumulative Effects Assessment (CEA): Implements models to quantify and map cumulative impacts of multiple maritime activities on marine environments.
  • Maritime Use Conflict (MUC) Analysis: Provides methods to identify and map spatial conflicts arising from overlapping maritime uses.
  • Marine Ecosystem Services Threat (MES-Threat) Analysis: Evaluates threats to marine ecosystem services using dedicated analytical models.
  • Stand-alone Python library and GeoNode plugin: Available as a Python library and as a GeoNode plugin for integration with GeoNode deployments.
  • Advanced geospatial and statistical analysis: Offers capabilities for detailed geospatial and statistical analyses of maritime spatial data.
  • Data curation and integration: Includes tools for data curation, interoperable data sharing, and integration with third-party repositories.

Scientific Applications:

  • Collaborative Geospatial Modeling: Supports joint modeling of cumulative effects and use conflicts to inform Maritime Spatial Planning.
  • Decision Support for Stakeholders: Produces analytical outputs to inform policy and management decisions in maritime spatial planning.
  • Case Studies: Has been applied to analyze cumulative effects in real-world scenarios such as the Adriatic Sea.

Methodology:

Explicit components include interoperable data sharing via the Tools4MSP Geoplatform, advanced geospatial and statistical analysis routines, data curation tools, and integration with third-party repositories.
