Toxoplasma genome resources (ToxoDB)
Toxoplasma genome resources (ToxoDB) provides integrated genomic and functional genomic datasets for the protozoan parasite Toxoplasma gondii to support comparative genomics, functional annotation, and proteomic and expression-based analyses across multiple strains including ME49, GT1, VEG, and RH (Chr Ia, Chr Ib).
Key Features:
- Integrated multi-strain genome sequences: Genome sequence data integrated from multiple Toxoplasma gondii strains, including ME49, GT1, VEG, and RH (Chr Ia, Chr Ib).
- Community annotations: Incorporation of community-contributed gene and genome annotations.
- Expressed sequence tags (ESTs): Inclusion of EST datasets to support transcript evidence.
- Gene expression profiles: Aggregation of gene expression data to enable expression-based analyses.
- Proteomics datasets: Integration of proteomics data to support protein-level evidence and annotation.
- Strain-level variation data: Datasets enabling exploration of genetic variation across different T. gondii strains.
- Sequence retrieval and basic analyses: Provision of sequence retrieval and basic bioinformatics analysis capabilities.
- Functional annotation and comparative genomics: Support for functional annotation and comparative genomic analyses across strains.
Scientific Applications:
- Comparative genomics: Comparative analysis of genome sequences and strain-specific variation among T. gondii isolates.
- Functional genomics: Integration of annotations, expression, EST, and proteomics data to inform gene function studies.
- Gene regulation studies: Use of gene expression profiles and transcript evidence to investigate regulatory patterns.
- Protein function and proteomics: Leveraging proteomics datasets to study protein expression and function.
- Parasitology and pathogen research: Resource for genomic and functional investigations relevant to T. gondii biology and pathogenicity.
Methodology:
Integration of sequence data from multiple strains and incorporation of community annotations, ESTs, gene expression profiles, and proteomics datasets, supporting sequence retrieval, functional annotation, and comparative analyses.
