transeq (EBI)

transeq (EBI) translates nucleic acid sequences into peptide sequences to enable downstream protein-level analyses such as function prediction and annotation.

Key Features:

  • Core function: Translates DNA and RNA nucleotide sequences into corresponding peptide sequences.
  • EMBL-EBI integration: Integrated with EMBL-EBI resources including UniProt, InterPro, ENA, and Ensembl Genomes.
  • Job Dispatcher integration: Operates within the EMBL-EBI Job Dispatcher framework and leverages its job management and visualization capabilities.
  • Programmatic access: Supports RESTful and SOAP-based APIs for programmatic submission and retrieval of translation jobs.

Scientific Applications:

  • Protein function prediction: Provides peptide sequences used for predicting protein function and molecular interactions.
  • Genomic studies: Converts coding regions from genomic data to peptides to support analyses of gene expression and regulation.
  • Pathogen research: Translates viral and other pathogen nucleotide sequences to study translation products and protein-coding potential.

Methodology:

Performs nucleotide-to-peptide translation within the EMBL-EBI Job Dispatcher framework and accepts programmatic access via RESTful and SOAP APIs.
