TubercuList

TubercuList provides a manually curated relational database of Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv genome annotations integrated with literature-derived functional data to support tuberculosis research.

Key Features:

  • Manual Curation and Updates: Expert manual curation integrates experimental and bioinformatics evidence to update gene models, coding sequence coordinates, and polymorphic nucleotide annotations.
  • Gene Discovery and Annotation: Identification of numerous small genes and updated gene annotations including information on gene essentiality for H37Rv.
  • Functional Information Integration: Integration of literature-derived functional assignments for proteins and RNAs, including newly attributed activities.
  • Interconnected Databases: Cross-references to 3D molecular structures, expression profiles, drug development criteria, and drug resistance datasets.
  • Literature Linking: Gene entries are linked to PubMed articles to consolidate primary literature evidence for annotations.

Scientific Applications:

  • Genome annotation and analysis: Enables interpretation of H37Rv gene content, structure, and sequence variation.
  • Drug target identification: Supports identification and prioritization of potential drug targets based on gene essentiality and functional annotation.
  • Diagnostic and therapeutic development: Informs development of diagnostics, therapeutics, and prophylactics through integrated genomic and functional data.
  • Study of drug resistance: Facilitates investigation of drug resistance mechanisms via annotated polymorphisms and linked resistance datasets.

Methodology:

Relational database implementation with expert manual annotation and continuous updates integrating genome-derived information with PubMed-curated literature and experimental or bioinformatics evidence, including revisions of coding sequence coordinates, annotation of polymorphic nucleotides, and identification of small genes.
