VennPainter

VennPainter generates Venn diagrams to visualize and analyze unique and shared gene sets across multiple datasets.

Key Features:

  • Venn diagram types: Generates Classic Venn, Edwards' Venn, and Nested Venn diagrams.
  • Dataset capacity: Provides a graph mode supporting up to eight datasets and a data processing mode handling up to 31 sets.
  • Output formats and layouts: Produces Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) output with vertical, horizontal, and matrix layout options.
  • Intersection gene extraction: Extracts gene lists corresponding to set intersections for downstream analysis.
  • Implementation: Implemented using the Qt C++ framework.

Scientific Applications:

  • Comparative genomics: Visualizes overlaps among gene sets from multiple experiments or species to support comparative analyses.
  • Candidate gene identification: Identifies shared and unique genes across datasets to prioritize candidate genes for further study.
  • Gene family and relationship analysis: Illustrates relationships among genes or gene families by displaying shared and distinct membership across sets.

Methodology:

Implemented in Qt C++ to generate Classic Venn, Edwards' Venn, and Nested Venn diagrams, outputting SVG files and supporting graph mode (up to eight datasets) and data processing mode (up to 31 sets) with vertical, horizontal, and matrix layouts.
