VEuPathDB

VEuPathDB provides integrated access to omics, genomic, population genetics, and spatial data and analysis tools for eukaryotic pathogens, invertebrate vectors, and their hosts.

Key Features:

  • Organism coverage: Contains data for more than 600 organisms, including invertebrate vectors, protists, fungi, free-living or non-pathogenic species, and hosts.
  • Omics data integration: Aggregates and analyzes omics data sourced from public domains across multiple data types.
  • Pre-analyzed datasets: Provides over 3,000 pre-analyzed datasets for downstream analysis and comparison.
  • Orthology prediction: Performs orthology predictions using OrthoMCL.
  • Analysis tools and visualizations: Integrates analysis tools, visualizations, and advanced search/data-mining capabilities for exploratory and comparative analyses.
  • Galaxy workspace: Offers a Galaxy workspace to analyze private large-scale datasets and port analyses to VEuPathDB for comparison with integrated public data.
  • MapVEu spatial mapping: Includes MapVEu for exploration of spatially resolved data applicable to vector surveillance and insecticide resistance monitoring.
  • Comparative analyses: Enables comparisons across datasets, data types, and organisms for hypothesis-driven investigations.

Scientific Applications:

  • Hypothesis-driven research: Supports formulation and testing of hypotheses using integrated omics and pre-analyzed datasets.
  • Comparative genomics and population genetics: Facilitates comparative analyses across pathogens, vectors, and hosts using genomic and population-level data.
  • Vector surveillance and resistance monitoring: Applies spatial data via MapVEu for vector surveillance and insecticide resistance studies.
  • Epidemiological and ecological studies: Supports spatial and cross-species analyses relevant to epidemiology and ecology.

Methodology:

Integration and analysis of publicly available omics data; orthology prediction using OrthoMCL; provision of a Galaxy workspace for private large-scale dataset analysis and porting to VEuPathDB; spatial data mapping via MapVEu; distribution of pre-analyzed datasets.
