ViewIt
ViewIt processes, analyzes, and visualizes multidimensional biomedical imaging data (including MRI, confocal microscopy, and 3-D NMR microscopy) to support image reconstruction, frequency-domain analysis, neighborhood operations, volume rendering, and animation.
Key Features:
- Multidimensional Image Processing: Supports complex operations on multidimensional arrays typical of biomedical imaging data.
- Image Processing Language: Operates as an interpreter for an image-processing language based on the stack calculator paradigm.
- Extensive Functionality: Provides over two hundred primary functions for image analysis and processing.
- Fourier Transforms: Implements Fourier transform routines for frequency-domain analysis.
- Back-projection Algorithms: Includes back-projection algorithms for reconstructing images from projection data in MRI.
- N-dimensional Neighborhood Operations: Facilitates neighborhood operations across multiple image dimensions.
- Volume Rendering: Provides volume rendering capabilities for visualizing complex 3D structures.
- Animation: Supports dynamic visualization of multidimensional datasets.
- Platform Compatibility: Runs on Unix-based systems with specialized, optimized code for Cray vector architectures and the Connection Machine.
- Distributed Image Display Interfaces: Supports protocols for distributed image display, including X Windows.
Scientific Applications:
- MRI Image Reconstruction: Enables reconstruction workflows using back-projection algorithms for MRI projection data.
- Frequency-domain Analysis: Supports analysis of image frequency content via Fourier transforms.
- 3-D NMR Microscopy: Applied to processing and visualization of 3-D NMR microscopy datasets.
- Confocal Microscopy: Applied to analysis and visualization of confocal microscopy data.
- Method Development and Production Processing: Serves both as a research platform for developing new analysis methods and for production application processing.
Methodology:
Interprets an image-processing language based on the stack calculator paradigm and implements Fourier transforms, back-projection algorithms, N-dimensional neighborhood operations, volume rendering, animation, and distributed image display, with optimized code for Cray vector architectures and the Connection Machine.
