VIRGO provides a curated non-redundant gene catalog and derived vaginal orthologous groups (VOG) for analysis of metagenomic and metatranscriptomic data from the human vaginal microbiome.

- Comprehensive Non-Redundant Gene Catalog (VIRGO): Approximately 0.95 million non-redundant genes representing the genetic diversity of the human vaginal microbiome with functional and taxonomic annotations.
- Vaginal Orthologous Groups (VOG): Orthologous groups derived from VIRGO that enable comparative analyses of evolutionary relationships and functional conservation across vaginal microbial species.
- Gene-Centric Design: A gene-centric organization that supports characterization of structure and function in vaginal metagenome and metatranscriptome datasets.
Scientific Applications:
- Intraspecies Diversity Analysis: Analysis of 1,507 additional vaginal metagenomes to reveal extensive intraspecies diversity within the vaginal microbiota.
