VRprofile2

VRprofile2 identifies and analyzes mobile genetic elements in bacterial genome sequences to characterize antibiotic resistance gene cassettes and mobilome composition.

Key Features:

  • Visualization: Provides visualization of antibiotic resistance gene cassettes and diverse mobile elements within mosaic structures and supports comparison of predicted mobile elements against comprehensive reference entries.
  • Mobilome Indicator: Reports a mobilome indicator that estimates the overall mobilome size within individual bacterial genomes.
  • Comprehensive Analysis Capabilities: Examines relationships between antibiotic resistance genes, mobile elements, and host strains using predicted strain sequence typing, plasmid incompatibility groups, and plasmid transferability information.
  • Updated Database — MobilomeDB2: Uses MobilomeDB2, expanded to nearly a thousand active mobile elements curated from literature or predictive models.
  • Pre-computed Results: Includes pre-computed analyses of antibiotic resistance gene-carrying mobile elements in over 5,500 ESKAPEE genomes for comparative investigation.

Scientific Applications:

  • Mobilome profiling: Characterizes the composition and size of bacterial mobilomes to study mobile genetic element landscapes.
  • Antibiotic resistance dissemination studies: Investigates how antibiotic resistance genes are acquired, maintained, and spread among bacterial populations via mobile elements.

Methodology:

Implements a sequence-analysis pipeline integrated with visualization; compares predicted mobile elements to reference databases and applies predicted strain sequence typing, plasmid incompatibility group detection, and plasmid transferability assessment for identification and characterization of mobile genetic elements.
