WCO-Lite

WCO-Lite provides a curated nomenclatural catalogue of harvestmen (Opiliones) by exposing the "Opiliones of the World" database curated in TaxonWorks to support taxonomic, biodiversity, and conservation research.

Key Features:

  • Checklist of Valid Taxa: An exhaustive checklist of valid taxa within Opiliones with content updated through December 2018.
  • Taxonomic Tree: A taxonomic tree representing the hierarchical classification of harvestmen (Opiliones).
  • Search Engine with Dual Modules: A search engine composed of two modules enabling targeted taxon lookup and broader taxonomic queries against the database.
  • Species Diversity Counter: Per-taxon counters that report species diversity (species counts) for listed taxa.

Scientific Applications:

  • Taxonomic reference: Provides authoritative nomenclatural and checklist information for taxonomic naming and identification of Opiliones.
  • Biodiversity assessment: Supports quantification and comparison of species diversity across Opiliones taxa and regions.
  • Conservation biology: Supplies standardized taxonomic baselines useful for conservation prioritization and biodiversity monitoring.
  • Comparative and evolutionary studies: Facilitates comparative analyses and investigations of evolutionary relationships among Opiliones by providing curated taxonomic frameworks.

Methodology:

Curated taxonomic data are integrated and managed within TaxonWorks as the "Opiliones of the World" database, and the checklist content reflects updates through December 2018.
