WebMicroscope

WebMicroscope provides virtual microscopy for pathology education by hosting digitized slide images and linked clinical and macroscopic materials to support teaching and case-based learning in basic/systemic pathology and oral pathology.

Key Features:

  • Digitized Slide Library: Houses over 400 fully digitized slides covering 15 entities in basic/systemic pathology and oral pathology as high-resolution images viewable in a web browser via a viewer plug-in.
  • Integrated Educational Resources: Links each virtual slide to macroscopic and microscopic images and clinical information to form virtual cases and includes supplementary files such as text files, syllabi, PowerPoint presentations, and animations.

Scientific Applications:

  • Laboratory Practicals: Provides virtual slides for laboratory practicals in basic/systemic pathology and oral pathology, enabling workstation-based instruction.
  • Case-based Teaching: Supports case-based learning and clinical correlation by organizing slides with clinical information and macroscopic images.

Methodology:

Glass slides were converted into digital images and uploaded to the WebMicroscope server; slides are accessed through a web browser using a viewer plug-in.
