XenBase

XenBase provides a centralized database for Xenopus laevis and X. (Silurana) tropicalis containing genomic, developmental, expression, and nomenclature data to support genomic and developmental research.

Key Features:

  • Gene Catalog: A repository of over 15,000 genes with associated literature references and interaction data.
  • Expression Data Integration: Integration of gene expression patterns including image data from the literature, large-scale screening projects, and community submissions, with support for multi-criteria expression queries.
  • Collaborative Resources (EXRC): Inclusion of detailed data on frog lines available at the European Xenopus Research Center (EXRC) stock center to support breeding and experimental design.
  • Ontology and Nomenclature Resources: Maintenance of the Xenopus Anatomical Ontology and role as the clearinghouse for Xenopus gene nomenclature.

Scientific Applications:

  • Genomic Research: Enables gene annotation, retrieval of interaction data, and integration of genomic datasets for Xenopus laevis and X. (Silurana) tropicalis.
  • Developmental Biology: Supports analysis of developmental processes through integrated expression patterns and the Xenopus Anatomical Ontology.
  • Genetic Experimentation and Screening: Facilitates planning and interpretation of genetic experiments and large-scale genetic screens using expression datasets and EXRC line information.

Methodology:

Systematic collection, integration, and curation of genomic data, expression patterns, and community-contributed information.
