XNAT
XNAT manages neuroimaging and related datasets to support storage, validation, quality assurance, and quantitative analysis for imaging-based research.
Key Features:
- Three-tiered architecture: Implements a three-tiered architecture comprising a data archive, middleware engine, and a presentation layer to separate storage, processing, and access functions.
- Data entry and validation: Supports XML-based data import and data entry forms with newly added data placed in a virtual quarantine until validated by an authorized user.

- Cross-dataset integration and search: Enables exploration of relationships across diverse data types via data-type-specific and cross-data-type searches and detailed reporting.
- Longitudinal MRI studies and quantitative analysis (OASIS example): Has been used to manage longitudinal MRI datasets (Open Access Series of Imaging Studies) for subjects aged 60–96 including nondemented individuals and those with Alzheimer’s disease characterized by the Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR), supporting automated analyses such as whole-brain volume calculations to study normal aging and Alzheimer’s disease progression.
