Atropos

Atropos performs precise trimming of next-generation sequencing (NGS) reads to remove adapter sequences and low-quality bases for improved downstream analysis.

Key Features:

  • Adapter and quality trimming: Accurately identifies and removes adapter sequences and low-quality bases from raw sequencing reads.
  • High sensitivity and specificity: Provides precise detection and trimming to retain high-quality reads for downstream analyses.
  • Robustness to sequencing errors: Maintains trimming accuracy on datasets with elevated sequencing error rates.
  • Performance: Delivers competitive execution times suitable for processing large sequencing datasets.
  • Cutadapt-derived algorithms: Extends algorithms and approaches from Cutadapt to enhance trimming functionality.
  • Implementation: Implemented in Python (version 3.3 or higher).

Scientific Applications:

  • NGS pre-processing: Trims adapters and low-quality bases during pre-processing to improve read quality for downstream analyses and reduce computational demands.
  • Short-read sequencing data: Applicable to data from Illumina, ABI SOLiD, and other current-generation short-read sequencing platforms.

Methodology:

Extends Cutadapt algorithms with additional improvements for trimming and is implemented in Python (version 3.3 or higher).
