BSDD
Biomolecules Segment Display Device, or BSDD, is an interactive web-based display tool that offers a unique way to search for and visualize a user-defined motif or fragment among the protein structures available in the Protein Data Bank (PDB). Not only that, but the tool can also work for structures that are available in a selected sub-set of non-homologous protein structures (25% and 90% sequence identity).
One of the key features of BSDD is the incorporation of RasMol, a graphics package that serves as an interface to visualize the three-dimensional structure of the user-defined motif. This helps in providing an intuitive understanding of the complex protein structure, making BSDD a valuable tool for researchers in the field of bioinformatics.
In addition to visualization, BSDD allows users to extract the atomic coordinates of the required fragment and save them to the client system. This feature is especially useful for researchers working with specific protein structures and requiring accurate atomic coordinates.
Another important aspect of BSDD is that its atomic coordinates are updated every week from the RCSB-PDB server, ensuring that the results produced by the software are always up to date. This makes it easy for researchers to rely on the accuracy of the tool, as they can be sure that the data they are working with is current.
It is a versatile and user-friendly software tool that offers a comprehensive range of features for bioinformatics researchers. With its ability to search, visualize, and extract atomic coordinates, BSDD is undoubtedly a valuable addition to any field researcher's toolkit.
