Cormotif
The 'Cormotif' software tool analyzes brain networks using a multi-layer network framework, considering both anatomical and functional connectivity of the human brain. Network science has been instrumental in understanding the structural and functional relationships among different brain areas in the past decade. 'Cormotif' extends the motif analysis to multi-layer networks, allowing for the classification and extraction of subgraphs in brain networks with an arbitrary number of layers. The tool is applied to anatomical and functional brain networks obtained from diffusion and functional magnetic resonance imaging, revealing statistically overabundant subgraphs where physical connections coexist with non-trivial positive correlations in activities. Additionally, the software investigates the reinforcement mechanism between layers, demonstrating that the underlying anatomical network constrains functional connectivity. 'Cormotif' contributes to a better understanding of the interplay between the structure and function of the human brain.
