CryptoGenotyper

CryptoGenotyper is a specialized genotyping tool to enhance the analysis of Cryptosporidium, a protozoan parasite causing cryptosporidiosis in humans and animals. This software tool streamlines the genotyping process by reading raw Sanger sequencing data of the commonly studied small subunit rRNA (SSU or 18S rRNA) and gp60 genes, crucial for understanding Cryptosporidium's transmission dynamics. Addressing the challenges of manual sequence analysis, which is time-consuming and error-prone, especially with poorly resolved chromatograms and the absence of a reliable database, CryptoGenotyper automates sequence classification into a standardized nomenclature.

Featuring a manually curated reference database for enhanced quality control, CryptoGenotyper ensures accurate classification of sequences, thereby saving significant time and reducing bias in data analysis. The tool includes heterozygous base calling algorithms specifically for the SSU rRNA gene, effectively resolving double peaks and salvaging previously inconclusive data.
