Myotube Analyzer
The Myotube Analyzer is a software tool to comprehensively analyze in vitro cultures of human adult muscle stem cells obtained from biopsies. It extends the commonly used fusion index metric by introducing additional features to assess the myogenic potency of muscle stem cells.
Key features of the Myotube Analyzer:
1. Image preprocessing: The tool includes functions for image adjustment and mask editing to facilitate semi-automatic segmentation.
2. Nucleus and myotube analysis: It can determine various features of nuclei and myotubes, providing a more comprehensive assessment of myogenic potency.
3. Novel parameters: Besides the fusion index, the tool introduces five new parameters that quantify nucleus clustering and myotube shape properties.
4. Reliability and validity: The tool was tested by comparing satellite cell cultures from children with cerebral palsy and typically developing children. Five out of six parameters showed good reliability, and significant differences were found between the two groups for five parameters.
