PortaDrop
PortaDrop is a portable, stand-alone digital microfluidic system that manipulates discrete volumes of liquid in droplets using the electrowetting-on-dielectric technique. The system is built on a Linux-based operating system running on a Raspberry Pi, making it unique and user-friendly. PortaDrop offers an "all-in-one box" approach with a self-explaining graphical user interface, integrated electrochemical measurements, and the ability to connect additional lab equipment via USB and GPIO.
The system also provides standardized experiment documentation. PortaDrop can be used for various applications requiring automated handling and analysis of small sample volumes in the nanoliter to picoliter range. The authors demonstrate its capability by presenting a protocol for monitoring droplet exchange using passive dispensing and electrical impedance spectroscopy.
