ProSOM
ProSOM is a software tool for genome annotation that aims to predict the core promoter of genes. It uses unsupervised clustering via self-organizing maps to distinguish the unique structural features of promoter sequences from other genomic sequences. The program has been compared to state-of-the-art promoter prediction software and performs at least as well while being more balanced in terms of the number of predicted sites and false predictions. ProSOM has been validated using an objective and biologically sound scheme and has been shown to have high precision in predicting transcriptionally active regions in the human genome.
