Risa

The Risa package significantly supports reproducible research and data reusability within the R statistical computing environment by integrating with the ISA-Tab format. The ISA-Tab format, designed to overcome the limitations posed by technology-specific data formats and to facilitate better tracking of experimental metadata, has gained popularity for its versatility across different experimental techniques. Risa bridges the crucial gap between metadata curation in an ISA-compliant manner and data analysis in R, thereby promoting a uniform representation of experimental data and enhancing traceability and provenance tracking.

Key functionalities of Risa include: (i) conversion of ISA-Tab datasets into R objects for analysis, (ii) enhancement of data annotation with additional metadata beyond the ISA syntax, (iii) seamless integration with domain-specific R packages for detailed analysis, (iv) recommendations for relevant Bioconductor packages for further data processing, and (v) capability to export R analysis results back into ISA-Tab format, augmenting them with analysis-specific metadata. Mass spectrometry and DNA microarray data demonstrate Risa's ability to streamline the data analysis workflow.
