TAP
TAP is a software tool that helps researchers plan and evaluate transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) interventions. It uses an MRI or fMRI-derived brain target to optimize coil placement, taking into account various experimental parameters such as subject hair thickness and coil placement restrictions. The software utilizes SimNIBS 3.2 for coil optimization and provides a TargetingNavigator graphical user interface for visualizing and adjusting procedural parameters. TAP records coil placement during experiments and processes this data to quantify the accuracy of the experimental TMS coil placement and induced E-field. In a study involving five subjects, TMS was delivered under neuronavigation with computed coil placement, resulting in coil location and orientation deviations up to approximately 2 mm and 2 degrees, respectively, and an 8% median decrease in the target E-field magnitude compared to optimal placement. Overall, TAP supports navigated TMS with numerous features for precise and reliable stimulation delivery, including coil placement and intensity selection based on E-field dosing.
