UROPA

UROPA is a software tool designed to annotate genomic ranges of interest. This is a crucial task for bioinformatics analyses, as these ranges can originate from various sources, such as peaks called for transcription factor binding sites or chromatin structure and accessibility experiments. However, many approaches to peak annotation remain simplistic, rely on fixed pre-built references, or require complex scripting tasks on behalf of the user. UROPA fills this gap by providing an adaptable, fast, and universal tool that is capable of annotating genomic ranges in the respective biological context.

One of the features of UROPA is its flexibility. UROPA is based on a configuration file that prioritizes different target features with multiple integrated queries. These queries can be sensitive to feature type, distance, strand specificity, feature attributes (e.g. protein_coding), or anchor position relative to the feature.
