miRNApath
miRNApath is a software package to analyze the role of microRNAs (miRNAs) in diseases like Alzheimer's disease (AD) by leveraging longitudinal and cross-sectional study data. This tool allows researchers to process and analyze data from plasma samples at various time points, focusing on miRNAs previously linked to developing the central nervous system and related diseases. Researchers can use miRNApath to compare levels of miRNAs in AD pathology models, such as transgenic mouse models, against wild-type controls, identifying age-related changes and disease-specific alterations in miRNA abundance.
The software detects significant age-dependent variations in miRNA levels, highlighting the potential of these molecules as biomarkers for tracking the progression of AD-like pathology. miRNApath distinguishes between changes specific to disease models and those occurring with age in diseased and healthy subjects, underscoring its potential in biomarker discovery and deepening our understanding of the molecular mechanisms behind neurodegenerative diseases.
